Dr Vorobiev / Interpreter Jelena: Good afternoon, the next participant of our school of those who conquer stuttering is Lazar. Lazar, tell us something about yourself. How old are you, what do you do?
Lazar: My name is Lazar, I’m 17 and live in Vinča. I’m currently attending high school. I practice jiu jitsu. I have older brother, who is 23.
Dr Vorobiev / Interpreter Jelena: Tell us about the result you achieved, compare your result to before.
Lazar: First time I came here, I was stuttering a lot, I couldn’t say one word without stuttering. Afterwards, after the first therapy I stopped stuttering for a year, but didn’t practice for full six months, but only three. I thought I should do three, instead of six, and I realized I was wrong when I came here for the second time. About a year later slight stutter started reappearing. And it stayed that way, there was no tension as during the first time, slight stutter for about two years. Then, about a month ago, my speech improved, because I suddenly became more relaxed. Then I came to completely overcome that problem, and I hope I will be able to do that.
Dr Vorobiev / Interpreter Jelena: At the beginning of the treatment, the doctor doesn’t say to the new students that they can participate in the therapy again. You’re actually not his patients, but his students, you’re now his friends, companions and you go through this together. Take Lazar, for example, who came after five years or after some period. If your speech starts worsening, you are free to come and the doctor will help you, he is happy to see you. Share some advice with those struggling with that damn stutter. What to focus on, and what to completely ignore. When to start practicing.
Lazar: I can’t give any advice, because I’m not entirely sure why I am doing this, all I know is that you should tense your stomach …

Lazar: I just listened to what the doctor said and tried to follow his instructions, and that’s about it.

Dr Vasily Vorobiev faced stuttering in his early childhood. Trauma of a dog bite caused severe speech problems he had to struggle until he was 18. When he realized that standard speech disorder therapies have no effect, he decided to use the knowledge of psychologists and psychiatrists available at the time and its own experience with stuttering to create complex system of exercises today known as the Vorobiev method.
