SEKULA
“I practice at home, I’m aware that I have to practice in order to improve my speech. I have to believe in myself, to be persistent, stop thinking about what others say.”
Dr Vorobiev / Interpreter Jelena: Sekula, the doctor believes in you, and do you know when he was really sure that you would achieve a great result? Do you know when that exact moment happened?
Sekula: I don’t know.
Dr Vorobiev / Interpreter Jelena: He was sure that you will achieve a great result when you showed up for the third time. Because the first and the second time you practiced, you had good results, but there was some room for improvement, but now you practice much, much better. And now, when he saw you practicing, he’s much calmer, because he realized you understood what he was trying to say, that you heard him, which means that you will continue to practice. Tell us something about yourself: where do you live, what do you do, what results did you achieve and do you feel more relieved than earlier.
Sekula: My name is Sekula and I am 17 years old. I live in Užice. I’m in third grade of high school. I feel much relieved now. It’s easier for me to talk with people, much easier at school, when talking to teachers. I’ve been here for a year, I practice at home…
Dr Vorobiev / Interpreter Jelena: Do you really like the exercises or are you aware that its something you just have to do and is that where you found your motivation or you simply love to practice, and that’s what drives you forward?
Sekula: I know that I have to practice to improve my speech. I have to believe in myself and be persistent. And stop thinking what others say.

Dr Vasily Vorobiev faced stuttering in his early childhood. Trauma of a dog bite caused severe speech problems he had to struggle until he was 18. When he realized that standard speech disorder therapies have no effect, he decided to use the knowledge of psychologists and psychiatrists available at the time and its own experience with stuttering to create complex system of exercises today known as the Vorobiev method. This method now helps people from Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Russia, Austria, Switzerland, Israel and USA to overcome speech problems once and for all.
